Here is a copy of a "request" I have just submitted to this Finale "Help Center":
I just learned that MakeMusic has locked the old MakeMusic.com Finale forum. This forum has been an unbelievably rich resource for Finale users, from beginners to advanced, containing decades of the most clear and expert technical feedback (all generously offered, for free, by advanced Finale users).
I understand that MakeMusic opened this new Help Center as a way of maximizing help to the Finale community -- ie, rather than answer one caller, a post can be answered online in a way that is accessible for many others who may share the same question.
But what is the purpose in locking the old MakeMusic.com finale forum, when both portals -- the old forum and this new Help Center -- can easily be linked (to the benefit of BOTH), and probably even be integrated?!
At the very least -- as a tiny gesture of appreciation for the dedicated, selfless, advanced users who kept Finale relevant via the old forum -- Make Music should keep that forum accessible, functional, and current. There is no logical reason for shutting it down like this, and doing so is a profoundly self-destructive move, on the part of Make Music.
I am a composer and music educator (http://www.thinkingmusic.ca ), and have been using Finale for decades. No one who has spent thousands of hours learning how to use Finale wants to walk away from that product. But many have taken that step (here we come, Dorico. . .), and many more will. You can, however, begin to stem that flow -- and begin working to reclaim that decades-old customer loyalty -- by reversing that forum lock-up, and making it accessible again -- immediately.
I hope this email reaches someone at Make Music who is actually accountable for this lock-up, and that this person has enough internal space and temperament to take this complaint -- and these suggestions -- seriously.
To others who read this post: Please consider submitting similar requests.
