F capo 3 to D ---- Just cannot simplify A/Db to A/C# for some reason. Got the Simplify Spelling on and every other chord is spelled nicely except this one chord. Help, Diane
Then why Db instead of C# ? Why one chord the other? To clarify: In my piece in the key of F Major, I utilize Capo 3 to D. D Major has two #'s: F# and C#. I have the Simplify Spelling checked. Finale is spelling: C/E as A/Db and F/A as D/F#. So why is Finale only simplifying the one chord and enharmonically spelling the other? The F# is fine. The C# is not.
… Then why Db instead of C# ? Why one chord the other? …
I could be wrong here, but I do not think that it has anything to do with the chords - and everything to do with the steps in the chromatic scale - relative to the key signature.
Finale does not consider the {chord context}.
An example:
In the key of F major, add the chord symbols C/E, Dbm/Fb and C#m/E.
Then use the utility to change them to Capo 3 chords.
When I do so, I get A/Db, Bbm/Db and Bbm/Db.
PS
Correction:
In the key of F major, the chord symbol F/A. When I apply Capo 3 to F/A, the chord symbol changes to D/Gb.
