I still use Finale 2012 on a daily basis, but occasionally Finale 25 if I want to use certain new features.

I was trying to print to PDF but Finale 25 keeps telling me that the size of some pages does not match the size of the paper in the printer. I know how to work around this in F2012, but it doesn’t work in F25. It keeps writing to Letter format even if I have set it in page setup of the File menu, and in the page layout tool. I also choose Concert in the sizes of the Print DB.

Any clue?

From your description ( “does not match the size of the paper in the printer” ) it sounds like you are creating the PDF files via the Mac OS X Print dialog (= “printing” to a PDF file).

Have you tried, instead using the Graphics Tool?

Graphics menu > Export Pages…

The other thing you'll notice is that creating .pdf files from the Graphics menu is the only way to get true black and file sizes that you are used to. PDF files generated from the Print Dialog are dark grey and much larger by comparison.

Why is this, Mike? The size difference is considerable: often almost a factor of 4x. I haven't tested the grey/B&W issue yet, as the people I've been sending PDFs to recently don't seem to experience the problem.

If MM ever tells us, we’ll know. Many claim it’s a bug but I don’t know that it’s been acknowledged — it’s certainly never been addressed if it is.

Unless the question is why the file is so large? That’s easy: it’s grayscale and not monochrome B&W.

I think they did it on purpose but have no idea why. We figured out the workaround a year ago and there it lies.

There are many threads about this.

Thank you all for the answers! Yes, printing from the graphic tool works fine, so that solved my problem.
