I bought finale 2005 a long time ago. I would like to put it on my laptop but there is no disc drive. Does anyone have a solution?

You could either update to the current version of Finale and download it, or get an external disc drive that plugs into a USB port.

(check first to see if your current OS will run Finale 2005)

Without knowing the operating system, no one will be able to answer this question correctly.

If your system is old enough to support Finale 2005, Jeffery gave the correct answer.

I have the disc for my 2005 finale and I also have it installed on an older laptop. I would like it to be on my new laptop which has no disc drive. It's an hp with windows 10 I believe

Back to what Jeffery posted. Copy the installer from the CD to a thumb drive. I’ve no idea if it will install onto Win 10 but you don’t need the CD as long as you have the installer.

If it installs but the license won’t authorize, you may have to de authorize it from the old laptop. You should be able to log into your MM User Account and do this as well. If the license manager in 2005 is not compatible with Win 10, however, that won’t work.

I ran into that last issue on a Mac when I tried a fresh install of 2011 onto a Yosemite test drive. It installed fine but the license app couldn’t talk to the server—as I didn’t need it out of demo mode, wasn’t a problem. My other drive wasn’t an issue as the OS had been updated over the years and 2011 was still working over Sierra (with limitations). High Sierra broke Finale 2011 for good.

So give it a try and tell us if it works or doesn’t. Some of us mIght be curious and there will be others asking the same thing.

You can (and should) upgrade to Finale 25 and it will open your 2005 files—and there’s help available with that if you need it.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I just found my serial number on my computer when I looked it up on finale. I couldn't get my serial number to register but I'm talking to someone at makemusic and they are supposed to help me with it. It's kind of good that everything was delayed because I just found the Black Friday special the other day to update for $79 and that's what I'm going to try to do.

Don't use the Chrome browser for this—it doesn't like the upgrade process. Likewise, people have found that firewalls, antivirus software and VPNs may interfere with upgrading.

Once you have finished the upgrade, you can turn everything back on and use Chrome if you like.
