Using the Finale 2014 software on a Mac, I cannot  input a simple triplet comprised of an eighth note-quarter note.

I've tried simple entry:

1) Using the triplet tool, eighth note, quarter note and this doesn't work.

2) Using the option 9 function, where I input 3 eighths in the space of 2 eighths, then trying the eighth note quarter note and this ends up not having enough time within the measure.  Maybe I need a different calculation with the option 9 feature?

The measure is in 2/4.  The first beat is a simple triplet with eighth notes, and beat two is the triplet comprised of an eighth note, followed by a quarter note.

Thank you for your help!!

The issue here is not that the tuplet is a mixed tuplet of {8th + 4tr}, but rather that you are trying to end a measure with a tuplet.

There are several ways to create a tuplet*), and your way is exactly the way that triggers the issue.

You are - temporarily - “overfilling” the measure (= until the tuplet is completed).

To allow “overfilling”, de-select “Check for Extra Notes”.

When you are done, you can select “Check for Extra Notes” again.

*) You will not get the problem if you instead use the Speedy Entry Tool.

You can also do it in Simple Entry without turning off Check for Extra Notes:

Enter eighth note

Option 9> 3 eighths in space of 2 eighths>OK

Enter quarter note
