Hi,

I've been having issues with changes showing on my current project in finale.

Anytime I go to select and move a measure, the section I am selecting doesn't highlight but changes are made to the document... However, I can't see them unless I quit and save changes then re-open the file. Once I reopen the file the changes show in my project.

This also happened when moving chord placements. The changes wouldn't show while I was working on it but when I saved and quit then re-opened the file the chords were in the new place.

Makes it very inconvenient to try and guess where you need to place things then hope they're in position when you re-open the file.

Thanks!

Please specify the steps you've already taken, so that we can rule out things.

Did you e. g. try

- Redraw Screen?

- Update Layout?

Same issue here. I can see changes when I switch from Scroll to Page view, or vice versa. 2014.5 Mac here, updated to the last update.

There are two ways to see changes or selections with these problem files. The first is to switch from whichever view I'm in (generally scroll or page) to another, and the second is to change the zoom from any amount to any other amount. The Redraw Screen and Update Layout tools don't change anything.

When you say “with these problem files”, I get the impression that the problem is isolated to specific documents - it happens in some documents, and it does not happen in some other documents.

In Other Words:

The problem is document specific, not program specific, right?

Could the problem have something to do with the data size, I mean, does it happen only in big documents, never in small documents?

Yes, it is certain documents, not all the time. I have only noticed it in documents that are for a larger ensemble, but it's not consistent with all orchestral scores I work with. One problem file is ~380kb.

Have you tried other steps than Redraw Screen and Update Layout?

have you e. g. tried

- quitting Finale, and launching it again?

- removing the Preferences file?

- logging out of your user account, and logging in again?

- rebooting?

And did any of these steps make the problem go away?

Do all your staves fit on your page layout page size or do they overflow?

Are the sizes of the staves in page layout such that you can accurately select items on them with the mouse?

Michael Kestler,

Sorry about the many questions - we are “shooting in the dark”.

More questions:

I suppose that you are familiar with the three music size scalings - Page Scaling, System Scaling, and Staff Scaling, right?

And I suppose that you are not using Staff Scaling, so that the resulting music size scaling is a combination of Page Scaling and System Scaling, right?

- What is the resulting music size scaling?

- At what zoom percentage are you viewing the score on the computer screen?
