Thank you very much--I have not updated to either of the past two OS because when I updated to Yosemite I could not use my Finale programs. I know I should update, but I don't use my Finale programs enough anymore to merit a costly update.  The crazy thing is that I can open some, but not others, and I cannot figure out the reason.  Sigh...

If you created the files in F 2012, you will not be able to open them in PM 2011. The reverse, however, should work.

If someone sent you files created in 2014 or later, you will not be able to open them in F 2012, unless they were exported in that format. Not in PM 2011, at all.

-39 is a general data corrupt code. It can mean anything, unfortunately, from not having read/write privileges in a folder to actual hard drive problems. This is not a Finale error; it's generated by the OS.

Since you are in Mavericks, try the following: Do a Safe Boot by holding the Shift key on startup. You will be asked to log into your user account — when all of your icons look normal, shut down and boot normally. This fixes paths, resets caches and rebuilds the desktop. Expect this to take quite awhile if you are on an HHD.

Run Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility on your partition(s).

If this doesn't do it (and I suspect it won't) post back.
