My articulation tool has suddenly started adding staccato signs in place of the natural harmonic O sign.  This happens both when I manually select the harmonic symbol from the list, and when I use the designated shortcut for the sign.  In both cases, the staccato symbol appears instead.  I've checked the staccato symbol in the list, and the shortcut is listed as s and not o; meanwhile the staccato symbol shortcut is still listed as s, and it works normally.   

As a kind of desperate multi-purpose fix I tried resetting preferences and re-opening the file, to no avail.  

I use Finale 25 and Windows 10 on an HP Omen computer.  

NOTE to forum moderator: Can you PLEASE make it possible to upload finale files here?  Otherwise how can people advise me on how to fix this sort of weird behaviour, if they can't check the file for themselves?

I've discovered that the problem occurs only when adding the harmonic symbol to grace notes.  If applied to normal notes, it seems to be work ok.  But in the process I've discovered another problem: the metatool to turn normal notes to grace notes and vice versa does not work.  Is my computer keyboard going crazy or is it Finale (newish computer, no apparent other problems)?

Ok, I'm making some progress.  When I add the harmonic symbol to a grace note, it is in fact adding the symbol I want, but because it's so small it LOOKS like the staccato symbol.  So the problem I have to resolve now is how I can change the size of articulations when added to grace notes as opposed to normal notes, so they are not invisibly small?  

The problem with the grace note metatool remains: I can't turn existing grace notes back into normal notes.  (The metatool can still turn normal notes into grace notes).

I can not speak for the forum moderator, but I suspect that the missing option of attaching Finale documents has something to do with the forum’s software (ZenDesk).

 

However, you can upload your Finale document elsewhere, and add a hyperlink to your document here.

Several of the other Finale forums on the web allow upload of Finale documents, e. g. this forum:

I would edit the articulation:

Set the font to “Fixed Size”.

In the Speedy Entry Tool there is a very technical dialog box called Edit Frame.

Have you tried that?

In Simple, on a Mac, Option-G will toggle a note between a grace note and a normal one. In Windows, try ALT-G.
