Every once in a while I encounter this strange behavior in V25:

For example on my first page I use "Title" & "Subtitle" in the same Text Tool box as a header. My header will look like this:

MyTitle

MySubtitle

Now I decide I don't need "MyTitle" anymore and I select that line of text in the Text Tool box on the page and delete it, suddenly I see:

MySubtitle

MySubtitle

I can go and try to delete that first "Mysubtitle" again and it won't go away. Opening the Score Manager reveals that "MySubtitle" now is in the "Title" field.

So far the only way I found to get rid of this "effect" is to delete the whole header and make a new one.

That can't be right?

Deleting it in the score is what I do.

The new idea is that you can edit a text insert (e. g. the Title insert) directly in the text block - instead of going to the Score Manager, and clicking the File Info chiclet.

However, the problem arises when you do not want to edit the text insert, but rather remove it from the text block.

What usually works for me:

1) Text menu > Edit Text…

You get to the window Edit Text where you can edit the text in a simple word processor.

2) To remove a text insert, use Shift-Arrow to select multiple font characters, namely the entire text insert plus at least one extra character.

You can type that extra character again when you have removed the text insert.

This is still an issue in 26.2.2.493 on Mac 10.14.6 and it's damn frustrating. I don't want to be able to edit the inserts directly on the page. I just want to be able to easily place them on the page and edit them elsewhere. When I attempt to remove inserts they never completely go away and instead cause a tremendous headache. Whenever I want to alter something that should be very simple I have to scorch earth and delete everything then redo all the inserts to ensure there are no gremlins remaining to screw the look of the text. Really obnoxious!

Dan,

I don’t want to denigrate your problem; obviously, it’s a real one and it interferes with your workflow.

Having said that, I’ve been using Finale for close to twenty years, with a couple thousand scores, and I’ve never used those inserts. I’ve just never had the need for them. Is there any way for you to avoid their use, and your frustration?
