Hello,
I have opened an old file in Finale 25. When I changed the lyric fonts, a few red lines appeared--not just between words, but across the document on multiple staves, all but the first two (it is a hymn).

The original fonts are no longer available on my system, hence "Missing font (11)" shows in the Lyrics Window dialog box.

Thank you,
:-)

I suspect they are word extensions. That’s often a problem with multiple verses.

Did you have the lyrics assigned to different verses?

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, that is what I thought. And, yes, the hymn does have multiple verses, and the lyrics are assigned to different verses and chorus.

I would expect the extensions if I had changed the lyrics, but I did not. I only replaced the missing fonts.

Fortunately, the piece will Export into PDF, albeit with the error box that says I am using missing fonts that will be replaced with system fonts.
Nevertheless, I would hope to change the fonts and not have this anomaly.

:-)

How did you end the word extensions in the original? I wonder if you may have used a character that didn’t transfer when you changed the font. I use a hidden grace rest, but I know that there are other ways.

Assigning words to different layers can cause unexpected extensions to appear. The same may be true moving from verses to chorus.

Extensions can be turned of by right-clicking the handle at the end of each extensions.

Thank you, all.

Yes, I am using different layers, but I did get a solution that worked--at least in this case.

Here's the fix I received from Lawson Dutton (MakeMusic), which I am posting with his permission:

"That sounds like some lyric word extensions have appeared, you can usually fix these by using the Edit Word Extensions function of the Lyrics tool. If you choose the Lyrics tool, choose Lyrics > Edit Word Extensions, select the small, gray handle that appears on the end of the red word extension line and press the BACKSPACE key, does this fix the word extension?

"Hopefully this will help fix all those extensions!"

The BACKSPACE works on the Macs, but DELETE is used on the Windows platform.

Thank you, Lawson!!

JA Verkouteren- thank you, you solved my runaway word extensions from verse to chorus in stacked verses [hymn style].
