Hello. Does anyone have details of a Music Scanning Software which can Export MusicXML that is less than $50 dollars, say? Or one that can read PDF files - costing $50 or less?
Music-to-XML is the product that was to have been included with 25 but was dropped before release. It is available as a standalone app only and the cost is $99.95
If you buy it, you have a $200 upgrade path to SmartScore X2 Pro — same as you do for owning a copy of Finale or Print Music. You can demo X2 Pro but can't demo Music to XML.
>And even if you don't have the older version, as a Finale owner, you can purchase SmartScore X2 Pro for half price, $199.<

I would spend the extra $99.05 for SmartScore X2 Pro. It has all of the functionality of Music-to-XML plus a lot more including (ESPECIALLY) the ability to edit your scans before exporting them to Finale via MusicXML. I just can't imagine using a product that doesn't let me do that—even if I save $99. Again: There's a 30 day trial available for SS X2P; no demo for Music-to-XML. You'll find the SS X2P demo here:

With both products, scanning to .tiff and not importing everything (a lå SS Lite) is no longer an issue. These apps will just import .pdf files. SS X2P can also import other types including .enf and .tiff. Having used SmartScore Lite in the bad old days, I am amazed at how good X2P is with .pdf files.
What is your time worth?
Although Music-to-XML does not have an available demo, Musitek will convert a file for you in pre-sales so that you can check it out. Music-to-XML is a black box: scan in/.xml out. If any editing needs to be done (and editing always needs to be done), you do it in Finale after you import the file.
There's a scanning app designed to work with Sibelius called PhotoScore. Like with Finale/SmartScore Lite, their Lite version only works with Sibelius but the full version can work with anything. $369.

There are some apps that claim to scan but do not. They will import a .pdf file and try to read the font info contained therein. This only works on .pdf files exported from notation apps. If the .pdf is a picture of a score and contains no font info, then it cannot work. Many scores posted on the internet are done by folks who know this and those .pdfs are generated from JPEGs or .png files to keep you from just importing the file. Read the fine print and try before spending money.
