I am creating a new document to put in the Document Styles folder to improve my workflow. I am starting from scratch with a New Document Without Libraries. When it comes to Page Format, I set the Page Format for Score and Parts to the settings I want: Staff Height 4 spaces, Scale System 100%, Distance Between Systems 8 spaces, First Staff System Distance from Top 24 spaces.) If I were to stop there, things seem to work. When I add measures to the file (to add relevant text boxes to page two), whether by option-clicking the measure tool or choosing Edit > Add Measures…, I save the file, and I try to create a new file using that document style. The new file opens with the following settings in Page Format for Score: Staff Height 3.96094 spaces, Scale System 99%, Distance Between Systems 0 spaces, First Staff System Distance from Top 24 spaces. It also does not apply the 24 spaces on the First Staff System even though the option is checked in the Page Format for Score dialog box. I notice that the files that ship with Finale in the Document Styles folder have more than one measure. So how can I get more than one measure in my file with no libraries but have it apply my saved page format settings when I create a new document using that document style?

MacOS 12.6.2
Finale 27.3

I don't think I've explained well. I'll try again, being as brief as I can but going through all the steps.

File > New > Document Without Libraries

Edit > Add Measures… (31) to create a two-page spread

Document > Page Format > Score… (make appropriate adjustments)

Page Layout > Redefine Pages > All Pages of Current Part/Score

At this point, everything looks great, so I save the file as "MyDocOps.musx" in ~/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 27/Music Files/Document Styles and then I close the file.

File > New > Document With Setup Wizard

Create a New Ensemble with the Document Style MyDocOps, click Next>

Add a Blank Staff, click Next>, click Next> again, click Finish.

Newly created file does not look correct, so Page Layout > Redefine Pages > All Pages of Current Part/Score

Now the document looks worse, so I check Document > Page Format > Score… and some of the measurements are different than what I set in the MyDocOps.musx file. I close that newly created file and open the original MyDocOps.musx file to confirm it has the correct Page Format measurements in the dialog box, which it does. I create a new file using the setup wizard selecting MyDocOps as the document style. I check the Page Format for Score dialog box, and it has different measurements than what is actually in the MyDocOps file.

Check Page Setup. Your doc style and your new project may be for different paper sizes.

I still prefer creating my own Templates for this — but I’m not you.

Page Setup is good. And the weird thing is, Page Format for Parts is correct. It is only the Page Format for Score that things are changing. The Page Format for the original document is good. If I create New > Document From Template… from MyDocOps, the Page Format is good (Page Format for Score and Page Format for Parts match the original document). But when I create New > Document With Setup Wizard…, the Page Format for Parts matches the original document while the Page Format for Score does not. It is almost like the setup wizard is corrupting the Page Format library, but it is doing it consistently the same way every time I repeat the operation, so I wonder if it's a bug of some sort. And it only happens after I add measures to my scratch file (New > File Without Libraries). If I keep only one measure in MyDocOps, everything works correctly (but I am adding measures so I can layout text boxes on page 2). As soon as I add measures, organized chaos ensues to my Page Format for Score.
