I suspect you have Automatic Music Spacing turned off in your Preferences. I prefer to leave it off, and update the spacing with (on windows) CTRL-4

Try one or all of these keystrokes:

Ctrl-D = redraws the screen

Ctrl-4, or Ctrl- 5 = set music spacing either by note spacing (4) or beat spacing (5).

Ctrl-U = update layout

Keep in mind you must select the region you want to apply these to. Ctrl-A will select everything. Or you can use the selection tool to select one or more measures. If these do not work you have other issues and need to come back and report on what happened or didn't happen.

After typing more lyrics with proper spacing and the automatic music spacing is turned on, the music is not spacing properly again. This only started very recently after I did the last update, I'm thinking my lyric function in finale is corrupted

Maybe not. Check, Edit>Preferences>Edit. They have a quirky habit of unchecking themselves.

If you do a reinstall, do a complete uninstall first. Finale or Windows whatever has a bad habit of leaving behind files. Make sure they are really deleted. I know it seems frustrating right now but I guarantee you it will work correctly. You just need to find the issue.

I want to thank everyone for trying to help me with my lyric function, Make Music answered me back and I was able to get some tech  support. I made a copy of all the areas to check is seems my templates keep unchecking various ones dealing with the lyric function. So the problem has been resolved.
