I have been looking through my scores to some music to consider for an upcoming gig.  The playback is not good.  On most of them, the five trombones (I use only bones with rhythm) are not playing and on another, the bass was not playing.  When I look at the mixer, I can see that some are tyring to play with the EQ showing music, but no sound.  ON some other bone parts the mixer is showing no playback either.

Playback via Midi or VST/Audio Units ?

Make sure you have different midi channels for each instrument in the ScoreManager, and in the case of VST/AU, that these midi channels match the ones in the Aria Payer.

In the Midi/Audio menu, VST/AU Banks and Effects, make sure that the volume is open.

(FYI, as you have a 5 trombone (+ rhythm) ensemble, I have posted on sheetmusicplus (a.o.) an arrangement on Don't you know I care (Duke Ellington).

Thomas W. Billing,

Are you still using Mac Finale? - perhaps v27?

Thomas,

First do a Reassign sounds under the MIDI/Audio drop down. MIDI/Audio>Reassign Playback sounds. Again MIDI/Audio drop down this time click VST Banks and Effects. Now check that the volume is up to 80 or so. Sometimes Finale turns off the volume on some instruments. You can change the overall volume here too.
