I am trying to create a backwards-tie in Finale 27. I have a first ending last measure with a quarter note on beat four in 4/4 time, which I need to tie to a whole note in the first measure. I can get the tie on the fourth beat quarter; however, my problem is with the whole note it goes back to, with the tie. I cannot figure out how to move the tie on the whole note, to the left side of the whole note. I know how to flip the tie but cannot figure out how to move the tie from the right side of the whole note to the left side of the whole note.

Have any good ideas how to make this happen?

I am not sure I understand your description of the layout.

Is it A or B?

Both A and B are “standard practice”.

Are you trying to create some sort of {non-standard} layout?

Could you perhaps attach a graphic showing the layout - as it appears in the manuscript?

Use the Tie Tool; (in Special Tools) and drag the "normal" tie backwards. You can also select the note and use Shift-T. In my experience, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. YMMV

Guys, I was able to use Mike's suggestion and just created a slur. I just dragged it around and used it for a tie. It worked good enough for me.

Thanks to both of you for the great information!
