I am a Finale PrintMusic user and have been since 2009.  When I open the program from the program icon, the trouble message pops up and says "Finale PrintMusic's audio engine failed to load. Please restart Printmusic."  This has occurred across multiple devices and I have no playback function.  If I try to open a PrintMusic file saved on my harddrive, it no longer appears as a Finale PrintMusic file.  They have all actually changed to a DVD file.  The only way I can currently work on a Finale PrintMusic file is to open up an existing file by opening the program and searching for the file within the program.  If I find it on my hard drive, it can't open in Finale PrintMusic.

I am not very computer savy and I have no idea how to fix this.  When I emailed recent files I made with no ability to hear them, the files had no playback on friends computers as well and did not appears as a Finale file.

Hi Mike, thank you for reaching out.  If you could be more clear, what information can I provide to you that would allow you to help me here?  I am not very computer savvy, although I consider myself pretty adept at using PrintMusic.  Let me know please. I am eager to get back to being to actually be able to hear my work.

I'm a PC user and I'm not sure about what upgrades it would have aside from gets sent out as you turn the computer off and on and I have not added or changed anything manually myself, or downloaded any software and no viruses have been detected.

Please read the instructions on what we need to know. These are the same elements that MM Tech Support requires. There are no mind readers here—we can’t see your setup.

Ok, you are on Windows but that, by itself tells us nothing. Microsoft automatic updates are a frequent cause of “I didn’t do anything but something changed.”

Okay, I read the link and I think the only information that I left out then is that I am using a two year old $2000 PC and that I am using Finale PrintMusic 2013.  I didn't say there are mind readers here, but I also mentioned several times I am not very computer savvy.

I’m going to take a wild guess and assume that you are on Windows 11. There is no reason for anyone to assume that PrintMusic 13 still works over Win 10/11. In any case, it’s not been supported for nearly a decade.

You have a couple of options. One is upgrading to the full version of Finale. There is no upgrade listed for an upgrade to PM 2014 (still available) on this page.

https://store.makemusic.com/Store/default.aspx?tab=notation&_ga=2.269157491.3801809.1682199651-1083466745.1680223505

If that is what you want, you will have to contact MM directly by using the Submit a request link at the top of this page—also ask if PM2014 will work over your OS.

Can I ask though, I have used it with this computer up until a week ago.  Why it would all of a sudden just stop working if no changes have been made?

You’ve not given us enough information for anyone to make an educated guess. For example, you say you are using Print Music 2013, a version that never existed, over Windows but haven’t told us the version of the OS.

So, read the link that two of us posted, answer the questions and someone here may have an answer—or a clue as to what the next questions should be. You can also upgrade to the current version of Finale or Print Music and send this to MM Support — who will need the same info that we’ve been requesting.

Sorry about the lack of info.  I am actually using PrintMusic 2014 and my operating system is Windows 11.  Is this helpful to you?
