First audio was set to ASIO and I unchecked Enabled and followed instruction to restart Finale.

But starting Finale again audio device was set to DirectMusic and was enabled.

Unchecking that it still throws errors at startup.

Would be great if Finale completely left audio device alone if unchecked.

- there are times not needing audio at all, just doing notation import and fixing up.

I ran video in background and that just froze and no audio.

Finale v27.3 as bought today.

Thanks.

EDIT: setting Finale to WASAPI only, having DirectSound and ASIO disabled was solution.

Also unchecking "allow exclusive control" in windows settings did the final trick.

Thank you.

But if all audio drivers, if it was WASAPI, DirectMusic and ASIO on this laptop I just ran trial v27.3, were disabled.

- just don't initiate any audio, drop that completely.

- it was an active operation to disable them, they were all enabled by default as install was made

- so it is not complicated as I see it, just drop idea to activate audio unless any device is still enabled

On daw computer the onboard audio is disabled and just an ASIO/WDM and something more device is available.

- but Finale knicks it exclusively

- I had to switch from ASIO setting to go through windows sound setting instead to be able to start daw software at all

- quite often software has a setting to use audio exclusively, meaning if other programs can use audio too.

I think simplest solution is to just drop audio part unless any available device was enabled.

- since all are enabled by default, it was active operation to disable them

- devs assume you absolutely need audio, that is root of problem, so must give notation "no audio" and similar.

- I'm just trying to be able to run an instruction video at the same time Finale is up???

- and for me it fits fine just to drop audio part in Finale when that setting has all audio disabled

I am able to run other audio software with reference music that I use when mixing and daw running too. Two different software no problem.

But Finale knicks audio exclusively meaning not windows or any other application can use it.

A lot of audio related software has a setting "use audio device exclusively" or similar.

- meaning even loosing focus it runs audio

- if that options is disabled, that software release audio when other application is in foreground and has focus.

Simplest solution(for me not using audio in Finale)

- just don't intitate audio unless enabled

Maybe more complicated solution

- have audio device released when Finale is not in foreground and have focus

Thanks a lot for responding.
