I have Garritan in my program files but Finale doesn't know it's there. Finale only offers me SoftSynth instruments/sounds.

I tried reinstalling Garritan but it said that that I already had it installed, and when I choose to continue anyway the installation process "jammed" (I had to restart the computer) so it looks like the Garritan folder is in the correct place.

I tried to follow the instructions for using the WIN-GIFF Data Files but when I typed in the following instruction "%appdata%\MakeMusic\Finale\MIDI Device Annotation" I got an error message.

Using Finale 26 with Windows 10

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

MIDI/Audio > Play Finale through VST. Have you chosen that?

Not the first time such things have happened after Win10 updates. You may have to find it and reset the path.

appData is a hidden folder IIRC; so you may have to tell Windows to "Show Hidden Folders" before you can open it.

Thanks guys... So yes, Finale is already playing through VST so that's not the problem. And the hidden folder is visible, so I can find it. But Finale can't so it looks like "resetting the path" would be my next step. Not sure how to do it and a Google search produces unintelligible results. If there is a simple way of doing this I would love to learn it !

You may have seen this already, but if not, take a look at these instructions

Yes. I have tried that. But when I type in the specified "run" command

%appdata%\MakeMusic\Finale\MIDI Device Annotation

I get the following message:

C:\*******\******\appdata\roaming\MakeMusic\Finale          is unavailable.

This is strange because I can follow this path and find the folders without any problem.

The computer seems to be looking in "System32", which is not where the MakeMusic files are, but even if I follow the instructions in the "Run" dialogue box and go to the Finale\|MIDI Device Annotation folder, there is no file there that can be selected ......

Problem solved. I took the bull by the horns, uninstalled and then reinstalled Finale, Aria Player and Garritan. Now it all works fine. And the instrument sound quality is much better in Garritan than in SoftSynth. Many thanks for your helpful comments. Nothing like a bit of community to help overcome the solitary desperation when nothing is working right!

I know it has been 4 years Ian, but I'm having the exact same problem with Garritan instruments not available in the create wizard. I've uninstalled everything and tried all of the 'windows R' tricks and nothing works.
