I am having what seems to be a not-unknown issue, where whenever I try to use the expression tool, it causes a hard crash.

 

Specifically, I select the expression tool, double-click over a note, and the dialog window opens. Except there are no expressions to choose from, and the only option in the left sidebar is "Show All". The only button that I can push (other than "cancel" is "Edit categories", and Voila! Instant crash.

This was happening with the latest version of v26, so I updated today to v27, and it's still happening exactly the same way, so I guess THAT'S not one of the bugs that got fixed. I have tried the whole trashing-the-prefs-file tactic (many times) and that does nothing.

 

I am running v27 on a 2020 Mac Mini w/ Cataalina (OS 10.15.7)

 

Not being able to use the expression tool is really a deal breaker! I wish I hadn't shelled out $150.00 just to find out the problem hasn't been fixed. Please some one help.... :-(

Sorry to say, but, that's why there is a demo version available before purchasing.

 

My only suggestion would be to contact them, and ask for a refund.

I remember that happening with 2014 in High Sierra but haven’t heard of it since. What does MM Support say? Have you sent it to them via the Submit a request link?

Just thought I would note that thanks to tech support I was able to fix the problem: the issue seemed to be limited to files exported as Std MIDI from MOTU Digital Performer and imported into Finale. Exporting them as MusicXML files and re-importing them solved the glitch. I hope having this note in the thread will save someone some aggravation at some point down the line!

Interesting. MOTU has been recommending MusicXML export over MIDI for a few years now.

 

I’ve been trying to get them to support .xml import like Logic and many other DAWs but they don’t seem to understand why anyone would want that.
