I am trying to create a mid-score instrument change in a handbell choir arrangement. I want two measures of percussion and would like to change the playback to drum set. When I try to change the instrument using the utilities menu, drum set is not an option. Is there a way to add instruments to make them available?

Sure. I am selecting 2 measures in the middle of my score. I then select "change instrument" in the utilities menu, but drum set is not an option. I have done this in other scores, but it could be that the handbells template I used to create the score has a limited number of instruments? Only pitched percussion is available.
Perhaps Finale does not allow one to switch between pitched and unpitched instruments. It would not be the only notation program to do so.
One's only recourse would likely be to combine both instruments into one part score [via Manage Parts] and hide empty staves where one or the other is not needed. To help more, one would have to know how much each instrument plays and how quickly the play er must switch from one to the other.
