You don’t say what version of Finale or SmartScore you had before. If you had one of the paid versions of SmartScore, follow the ink that MikeR posted above for upgrades. If, however, you only had SmartScore Lite, bundled with Finale 2014 and earlier, you want to go here instead. Finale owners qualify for a 50% discount off the $399 price. Make sure SS 64 can do what you want before you buy. Scanning a music score is more of an 'art form' than a fact. At times it can be more problematic to scan than to just enter notes manually in Finale 27. I have got 100% accurate scans to complete junk and as always it depends greatly on your original. GIGO.

The SS64 editor is crude at best, IMHO, as always.

EB, I’m curious. In what way do you find the editor crude? As long as I remember “it’s for scanning, not notation” it works fine for me.

Yes, sir, it works but that is as far as it goes for me. It reminds me of SImple Entry in Finale only worse.

What would you want, other than “it works”? It’s certainly the fastest way for me to get scores into Finale.

Well if it worked just like Simple Entry it wouldn't be so bad but I almost never use Simple Entry anyway. Its way too slow and way to many movements required. Correcting chords is finicky as are most of the edits in SS64. I usually just scan and immediately XML it and do edits in Finale.

I have learned that if you don't have good to excellent original and the original isn't too complex, I get 100% scans. If it is a poor copy or it has many parts or actually anything beyond simple it isn't worth it to use SS64.

Sorry, EB, but you're passing up the most valuable feature of SSP: the ability to do those edits before the XML. Yes, there's a learning curve to get efficient at it, but in my experience, it's worth it.
