First, restart Finale. If that fails, shut down and restart the computer.

Mike, I did restart and shut down and restarted the computer... nothing there.

Ernest, as far as I can tell, all boxes that should be checked are checked. I haven't changed any settings intentionally.

Yes sir... those are the same volume settings as mine.

Check to make sure under the MIDI menu that “Midi Thru” is turned on.

Yes... midi thru is selected.

I have started another arrangement and it scrolls and plays correctly. even the extracted individual parts scroll and play, but the original score does not.

It's like when I extracted the parts it silenced the original score.

Try deleting using the selected items only tool to delete all midi data. Then do a reassign all playback sounds.

I might need detailed instructions to do that.

Right click on a measure, click Clear Selected Items, uncheck all, then select MIDI Data

Unchecked all except Midi Data and still no sound on playback.

Well Charlie you have just about run me out of ideas to try. If you want to send me the file I can try and see what might be wrong. (e e biggs at g mail dot com) of course no spaces and normal email verbiage.

As one last shot, export the file as XML, and import it back into Finale.
