Hello All,

I am having a problem getting the header bars at the top of the screen in Studio view to line up with the bar lines.

I am running version 27 software on a MacBook Air M2 system OS13.

I have tried redrawing the screen and that doesn't work.  I don't have any pick up bars so that isn't the issue either.

Many thanks for any help.

Sue

p.s. I will try and attach an image to this posting if I can figure out how to get one small enough

I have experienced the same problem in Finale 2014.5, 25, 26 and 27. I have complained about it to MakeMusic in 2017, but I received a stereotyped reply and the problem carries on from version to version.

P.S. : attaching a (small) image took several trials.

MakeMusic's reply :

"Thanks for contacting MakeMusic Customer Success. I took a look into this, and it appears that the fix for this is part of some overall performance upgrades within Finale. Due to this I'm afraid there is no timetable currently laid out.

I would definitely recommend going to the Finale Forum Community and starting a discussion there, and then it should get commented on by a product specialist when the fix is complete!

I hope this information helps."

I tried this : switch to Page view, Select all (Cmd+A), type 4 (to respace music) then Utilities -> Update Layout.

The numbers get aligned in Studio view. Not perfectly, though.

BUT... the numbering starts at 1 in the second measure. (There is no pickup measure).

Studio View and the mixer need some serious upgrading and have for years. But MM sole concentrating on the cloud as their savior I doubt either will get any attention.

Hello Ernest and Michel,

Thanks for your tips and comments.  I submitted a ticket to them last week but they never got back to me and I can't find any record of it in the system....

I have Finale on two different computers - PC (Windows) and a MAC.  In general the software works better on the MAC because it doesn't crash but I don't have some of the same strange issues on the PC that I have on the MAC.

In addition to the bars not lining up properly, which is a pain in the a** if you are writing a score with more than 5 staves, when I write score with Lyrics, the Lyrics don't line up properly either.  I have not encountered these issues with the PC version.

Cheers

Sue

Sue,

Can you expand on the lyrics issue? I've done many scores with lyrics, and haven't encountered any problems.

Hi Mike,

I had Lyrics on "clone Lyrics" and was having a hard time with it.  I deselected it and just did "type into score" and now it is fine.

Thanks

Sue

Hi again Mike,

Here is one of the problems I have with Lyrics with the MAC software.  I was hoping that is would give me long hyphens between syllables like it does in the PC version, but it doesn't.  I have the word "Kis   ses" stretched out over two bars.  It won't let me put a hyphen between the syllables...."Kis---------ses".

Cheers

Sue

p.s. Unfortunately I can't load an image because no matter how much cropping I do they are all too large.

Susan you mentioned Finale crashes on your PC, mine is very stable. I can’t remember the last time it did. If Finale crashes there is a conflict on your machine somewhere. I have left Finale running for days with no issues.
First thing make sure Finale has it’s own temp file folder. Don’t use the default from MM. Create it in a place where Windows can’t get to it. Mine is on my second D: drive.

My notes usually line up when I have music inputted. There's another issue that you should be aware of. It's the hertz. I believe Finale deals with 48000 hz. When I loaded an MP3 file in with recorded 44100 Hz, it didn't do too well. When you go to your Audio Tracks Attributes you will be able to see your file format. You may have to refresh your file as well when loading the new MP3 file.

Susan,

Yes, Clone Lyrics leads to madness.

You would normally use hyphens between syllables, not a solid line. But you can control the spacing between hyphens. Document preferences > Lyrics has a space for distance between hyphens. I space them about 288 evpus apart, which is 1 inch. (Of course, if you don’t have that much room between the syllables, one will be inserted. The spacing only comes into use when it’s a long gap.)

If you need a little extra help with lyrics, drop me an email. My address is in my signature, below.
