NotePerformer 4.2 released.

Request your update here. Free to all NP 3 & 4 licensees.

Again for Finale Mac users: After installation, Finale will take a long time to open may crash one or more times as it re-examines all of your plugs and VIs. The more plugs you have the more likely this will happen. The average was 3-4x on my iMac Pro; only once on my new Mac Studio. Be patient and do not Force-Quit during the process—just re-open after the crash. Once all of your plugs have been re-verified, Finale will open and this won't happen again (till the next Finale or NotePerformer update, of course).

It was Arne @ Wallander who helped me diagnose this a couple years ago, now, and I sent it into MakeMusic Support at that time.

Other than Finale taking longer to open once I had a lot of plug-ins (which is pretty necessary to make up for missing functionality in Finale), I've not experienced any crashes on opening in many many years, if at all. It is not at all normal behavior for an app to crash on launch, regardless of how many extensions, plug-ins etc to which it is making calls. Did Finale support do anything about this issue after you reported it?

Of course it’s not normal. It is what happens when you have enough plugs and VIs—over a thousand, in my case. I know a number of users who have experienced this. If you haven’t, that’s great.

Arne Wallander ran the diagnostics that showed what the problem is and I forwarded them to Support. Now we know.

I have no idea why Finale re-examines everything when NP is updated — but it does. Perhaps this will be fixed someday but not yet.

I’m just the messenger.
