Finale 27+, Windows 11

Hi all,

When in Page View, I can control the width of the measures simply by selecting the number of bars per page. In doing so, I spread out the bars for ease of mouse-clicking (entering) the notes. For me,and in most cases, four bars per page works just fine.

However, in Scroll view, the measures are all squished together, squeezing out any extra space and thus making it more difficult (often very difficult) to enter notes.

So, is there a way to be in Scroll View and expand the width of the measures?

Thank you,
:-)

I can't really duplicate this problem. Do you have Automatic Music Spacing disabled?

Other than that ... it is generally a bad idea to enter music in page view. Input all of your music in scroll view, and once you are finished entering all notes, expressions, articulations, (measure attached) texts, etc., only then go to page view and adjust the layout to your liking.

Select all, Edit Measure Attributes, change width.

Select All, CTRL-4 does it for me. (I'm on a Mac, so I actually use CMD-4)

That just applies Note Spacing (which is of course what you'd normally want), but if you really want to have a particular larger width of a measure you'll need to adjust it in Measure Attributes.

It does sound like you want to do as miker suggests. Ctrl+A then Ctrl+4 or Ctrl-5. (Windows PC)

Hi everyone, and thank you!

It all came down to what Michael had asked, "Do you have Automatic Music Spacing disabled?"
It took me a while to remember that I had disabled it when running Perfect Layout.

Now when I work in Scroll View and do the Ctrl+A followed by Ctrl+4 to clear up the music spacing it works.

Simple things forgetting to remember do I... ;-)
Thank you all, again!

Michael, BTW...

You wrote, "Other than that ... it is generally a bad idea to enter music in page view. Input all of your music in scroll view, and once you are finished entering all notes, expressions, articulations, (measure attached) texts, etc., only then go to page view and adjust the layout to your liking."

Why is that?

I find that entering in page view causes me to get distracted by seeing formatting issues that will probably resolve themselves.

Why is that?

Like Mike said ...

But it does depend on what kind of music you write. With more complex scores, perhaps using many time signature changes, many different note values (e.g. bars with lots of eighth notes or triplets vs. simple quarter notes, etc.), or involvlng lyrics with many or few words, you would generally be happier entering all this in scroll view. When you then go to page view (having already set your page layout option preferences, such as page size, staff and page reduction, etc.), Finale will find more or less the best way to lay out your measures. You need to have automatic music spacing enabled and not have any systems locked. Then you can of course still tweak things to yor liking, for instance  if you want more space some place or consider awkward page turns, etc. But you probably know all this anyway, in the end it's really just a matter of personal preference and the workflow you are used to.

I also prefer scroll view if it is a band score or orchestra score. But for the smaller groups like Bones Midwest or KC Bone Connection which have four to six parts it doesn't matter which I use. Its just a preference thing. It doesn't really matter which you use.
