I am running Finale 2014.5 on a Mac.  I am writing method books for several different brass instruments, so the individual parts have the same notes, just different transpositions, clefs and ranges.  I am trying to copy the measure formatting from one part in my score to other parts, so that all the parts are formatted the same way (same page breaks, same time signatures, same number of measures per line, etc.).

I have edited the filter so that the only thing selected is Measure Settings (Stack Selection Only), along with all of the sub-items in that group.

I select the part which has been formatted and drag it onto each of the other parts, but their formatting does not change.  What am I doing wrong?

Hi David

The issue here is the term "Stack Selection"

To quickly determine what stack selection is, open your score and with the selection tool, double click on a measure in any staff. You'll notice that that one measure is selected for all staves. That is a measure stack.

Obviously this means that copying measure formatting data from one part to another does not work.

To get around this, make a copy of your score. Open the copy and remove all staves except for one which has the formatting you require. Now any measure you select will automatically be a 'stack selection'.

You can now open the working copy of your score and copy the formatting from the duplicate to your working score. (Make sure that the filter is active)

Cheers...

By "part," do you mean a section of the score, or an instrumental part deriving from the score (Linked part) ?

The plug-in JW Copy Part Layout (to be installed) can copy the layout of one part onto another linked part.

Darrin, thanks for the answer.  It makes sense.  I thought the stack selection only was what was preventing it from working, but I couldn't see a way around it.

Michel, thanks for the suggestion to use the plug-in.  I haven't investigated it yet but I will.
