(OSX El Capitan, 2.2 GHz, Finale v25)

When I have playback selected as "Play Finale Through Audio Units" I am not getting any sound.  When I play it through MIDI it gets sound, but not through Audio Units.  Does anyone have a solution to this?  Thanks very much!

Hello Bjorn,

Thanks for writing in, I'd like to test your ARIA Player outside of Finale.
Please open the ARIA Player (Finder\Applications\Garritan ARIA Player\ARIA Player) and follow these steps:

1. Click empty in slot #1 of the ARIA Player window and select Finale Default Bank > 005. Keyboards > Steinway Piano
2. Does the keyboard at the bottom of the screen light-up and can you play it by clicking the keys with your computer mouse? If so, please continue to the next step. If not, and you cannot load a sound into the ARIA Player or cannot open the ARIA Player, please refer to the following knowledge base article to reinstall the Garritan Instruments for Finale and the ARIA Player.
3. Go to ARIA Player > Preferences. Make sure to have the following settings: Audio Device > Built-in Output, Sample Rate > 44100 Hz, Buffer Size > 1024. Click OK.
4. Please click the keyboard keys with your computer mouse and let me know if the piano sounds correct.

Nick,

This worked for me, at least in the ARIA player as you described, but it still won't apply to Finale.  Can you give me more info?

Are you skipping the step where you have to select the Aria Player, then select the instruments you want?

When you installed Finale, did you make sure to run the second installer for Aria/GIFF? This must be done every time or Finale will not know where to find it.

No one has followed the basic rules so that any of us have a clue what the problem might be. Please read and re-post:

and HOW???? do you  make it happen? when you talk about second installer for ARIA/ GIFF (and what  is GIFF by the way) you do not offer any direction as to how to correct the issue.

I have upgraded to Finale V25 and have no finale/ garritan sounds ( and not my desired JBB2 which I wish to us and paid full price a while back) only Smartsynth available.

This is the third message I write with no answer (on finale or garritan forums),

I find this whole thing frustrating, annoyin,g cumbersome and confusing.

in this day and age (2018) using a notation program should be easy and quick to set up.

Aria player, Kontakt 2, 3 5...none of the stuff works and zero help, tutorials, guidelines or phone support of any kind.

The download contains two installers. Both must be run. Many make the mistake of seeing the second one and closing it in the belief that it’s a mistake.

If you run both, the Garritan Instruments For Finale will install properly as will the correct version of the Aria Player. In addition, the paths will be set properly.

Now the tutorials should make sense.

thanks for your quick reply,  however your explanation does not provide a solution.

Should I uninstall Finale V.25 and Aria player? how about Finale 2014, 2014.5, Kontak2, 5 and JBB2?

Also, what tutorials??

thank you, I deleted all finales, libraries and sample players. Restarted computer then reinstalled Finale V.25 and was able to set up Garritan sounds for finale and make them work. Now, how do I make my JBB2 to work in Finale V.25 without upgrading (spending money) to JBB3?

Thanks!

Not much to go on. In the bad old days, JBB2, like Finale, required Kontakt Player 2 to play VIs (that was a pain and I don't miss that at all). Even though I have legacy versions of Finale on my G4, I refuse to deal with legacy versions of KP. (4 or 5 are ok).

I don't know what other players may support it and there's very little info. Kontakt 4 Player and the first version of 5 for Mac are 32/64 bit. Current versions of Kontakt 5 Player are 64 bit only—Finale 25 should see it but can it host JBB2? I don't know the answer. My only suggestion is to download the current version and work backward to see if there's a version that can both load in Finale and host JBB2. NI keeps a number of legacy builds on their web site.

The upgrade to JBB3 is $49.95
