Has anyone else experienced words/lyrics disappearing from an existing file? When I open Finale 2014.5 files in Finale 25, my carefully positioned lyrics disappear. Using Win 8.1 on a desktop PC. See below for what I get compared with before. I opened a support case last night because I suspect it's something that needs to be looked at in the new version but I also rolled back to a System Restore point before installing 25 because I can't afford to have lyrics across multiple files obliterated by the new version. I'm sure Make Music will address this, but just wondered if anyone else had seen the issue. Thanks.

Disappearing and/or massively offset lyrics has been going on for many years, over many versions. Incredibly frustrating, and it's the reason I have to save my work every 30 seconds or so. Hoping against hope that it was addressed in this new v.25, but I guess it wasn't. **deep, deep sigh**. Please, please, please Finale, can we get this sussed out? Please??

Thanks, Michael. I have had some occasional instances of offset lyrics (hence I PDF my files as well as backing up just to ensure I can rebuild if catastrophe happens) but this is the first total disappearance I've experienced!

I have had the same issue, combined with a refusal of the new version to accept lyric entry even in newly created files.  Am wondering if the non-appearance of the "Finale lyrics" font which my new version stubbornly insists (changes attempted) on using for verse lyrics -- but which wasn't evidently loaded on installation? -- might have something to do with this iteration of the issue.  Rolling back seems a good idea.

I too have experienced this problem - with Finale v.27 no less - using iMac (OS12)

I frequently save my work. However, recently during a session, Finale crashed and I not only lost my latest changes to the document but when I re-opened it, ALL of the lyrics entered from my previous sessions had vanished.

This is incredibly frustrating!

I have used Finale for decades and am a big fan of the product in spite of its many short comings but his recent debacle has made me question my loyalty. Until now there has not been a viable alternative to Finale. However, Dorico by Steinway, seems to be making the right noises.

If Finale is unable to fix this problem soon, along with the incredibly frustrating inability to move tuplets efficiently while in page view, then I think I will be forced to switch products.

No automatic backup files? Nothing in Time Machine? Yes, it can be frustrating when things like this happen, but threatening to leave won’t cut much ice with the Powers That Be.

Just make sure that the product you move to has no problems, itself.

Hi Mike,

I think it is unreasonable to expect an individual to make backups after every single Finale session.

Also, if any of us want issues addressed, then saying and doing nothing about them will definitely achieve nothing.

Do you think backups are not important to Dorico users?

I have no problems with people who want to use Dorico using it. (Realize that it has a learning curve just as Finale has, so be sure to try a Dorico trial before abandoning Finale.)

But Mike is right: threatening to leave is lame.

Of course backups are important. But are you suggesting that Finale is so unstable that one should make backups every 2 hours?

Getting frustrated with persistent problems be they in Finale or any other issue in life, addressing them repeatedly to people who supposedly can help, and then waiting patiently for nothing to be done about them (in the case of the tuplet issue I identified above, this has persisted for several years) and then being too scared to try something new, that is lame.

I am not apostatising for Dorico - it probably has its own issues. I would like to stay with Finale - as it is a product I have used for many years. And yes, there are issues that emerge every time Apple comes up with a new OS. However, Monterey has been around for a while now. I don't care about the latest bells and whistles. I would just like the features of Finale that were offered in version 25 to be rock solid in version 27.
