Mac Finale 25 Fonts?

I use a font management tool (Extensis Suitcase Fusion & FontDoctor) to manage fonts.

After upgrading to Finale 25, I experienced a high cpu load caused by the fontworker process. FontDoctor complains that several of the font suitcases installed by Finale 2014.5 (?) are missing their corresponding PostScript files (Engraver*, Jazz*, Broadway*, Finale*, Maestro*, Petrucci*, Seville*, Tamburo*).

I accepted the FontDoctor recommendation to quarantine the fonts in question, cleared the font cache and rebooted - the fontworker process problem was eliminated.

What fonts are provided with Finale 25? Is it possible to download these resources separately? I'd like to try to import them into Suitcase Fusion properly.

You should be able to run the Finale 25 installer and do a "Custom Install" of the fonts only.

Nowadays, the Mac doesn't need to install the fonts to work. This is true with all apps released since... I don't know but it's been a long time. Often, an old version of an app will leave an incompatible version of a font and the installer won't know what to do with it—most likely the culprit here. Not a problem.

You can install any font by right-clicking on the application, and click on Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources and scroll down till you find the fonts (.ttf). Double-click on a font, click on Install. It is possible to shift-click a group of fonts and do the same.

Sometimes, an old duplicate with the same name will not let the new font install properly. Doing Get Info in Font Book.app will tell you when this is an issue. Delete the old font and reinstall the new.

I had to do this when installing Finale 2014. Some of my Finale fonts had 1995 build dates on them so I went ahead and removed every Finale font manually in Font Book.app. Although Finale worked fine without any fonts installed, I went ahead and did it anyway.

FontDoctor and font suitcases... I haven't seen those terms since OS 9. Didn't know those were still around.

Yes, the Custom Install does give the option of installing the fonts - however, in addition to the (apparently favored) TrueType fonts, it also installs bitmap fonts without their PostScript equivalents.

I have suppressed the bitmaps and created an application set consisting of the TrueType fonts included in the install image (Finale activates the fonts when Finale is launched and disables them when they are not required).

Font management is alive & well in Mac OS 10.11 (and beyond) because large shared font libraries are needed in professional layout production. Having a large number of fonts open at once unnecessarily burns up resources.

I have just upgraded to Mac Finale Version 25 and all my Cambria fonts have gone missing. How do I "find them" and reinstall them.

I really need this font.

I hope someone can help me.

Cambria is installed with Office. You should be able to find it and install the font. That it somehow disappeared with a F 25 install is hard to understand.

Thanks Mike. It turns out that Cambria was present only in my Microsoft program but not in the fonts folder on my mac. I downloaded the font and all is working well now. Thanks again.
