Using Mac os el capitan and finale print music 2014.5
Get this message when trying to import tiff file.
I have the exact same problem with PrintMusic when importing a TIFF scanned image using the MAC built in scanning utility. I was instructed to try this was as the SmartScore Lite does not recognize the scanner.
Steps that produces this error:
PrintMusic/File/Import/TIFF file - launches the SmartScore Lite
In SmartScore lite menu ADD file to list
Begin Recognition
The page is shown with the 1st note detected then the message: Java Was Not Initialized Correctly
clicking OK on the message window gives another message that reads:
"While attempting to access "temp.XML" the
file manager reported an error.
Finale PrintMusic - Error occurred, ID = -3"
This is a new MAC mini, OSX Sierra 10.12.3 and I just installed the latest Java version.
Lawson, regarding your question - do you get any error messages when trying to export a file to MusicXML? - we aren't discussing exporting here, but rather importing. When trying to import tiff files, we get this pair of error messages:
In my case, I have been importing pristine tiffs, generated from electronic pdfs (not scans) with SmartScore into Finale. It has worked quite reliably in 2014.5 until the day I upgraded to OS 10.12.3, Sierra.
Hi Alan,
Thanks for letting me know those results.
What I was looking for here was some indication of a version of Java missing from your machine - MusicXML (either import or export) would have made it most clear whether or not you needed this update. It looks like this may be the case. Both Finale and PrintMusic 2014.5 require a legacy version of Java in order to run correctly. For more information, and to acquire this version of Java, please visit this knowledge base article: Java SE 6 update required message when launching Finale or PrintMusic.
I would recommend restarting your computer after installing that version of Java.
Hope this helps!
No problem! It simply refers to a version of a software that pre-dates current versions. In this case, Java SE 6 is the version that you need and can be downloaded from the knowledge base article linked in my post above. if you have problems accessing or downloading that link, you may wish to try another web browser to try and download that version of Java.
If you are still running into issues after downloading and installing Java SE 6, I would recommend using the Submit a request link above to open a support ticket with our Customer Success team.
Hope this helps!
>The upgrade may have discarded an earlier version of Java that Finale & SmartScore were using...<
That happens with every major OS upgrade since 10.9 these days. Sierra gave a cryptic error about the JDK — inaccurate and confusing so many didn't realize that the JRE 6 needed to be installed again. I have a number of apps that require it including those from Adobe, MasterWriter and others.
