I have a Mac Pro (Late 2013 model - 2.7 GHz 12-core Intel Xeon E5, 64 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD running Mac OS X 10.11.6).  I open Finale v25, and run it in full screen mode.  I am adding articulations over a group of notes.  I drag to choose the notes.  The articulation "window" opens up full screen and the symbols quite enlarged.  I select what I want to add to the notes, hit select.  The screen goes black, and now I am staring at my desktop screen with a notice saying Finale has crashed and do I wish to reopen.  This has happened 10 times or so in the last 2 hours.

Maybe it doesn't happen while not in full screen mode, but I can't tell.  Didn't run it too much not in full screen mode.

This amount of crashing shouldn't be happening...... but it is.

I'm having the same issue on a Mac Pro (mid 2015) 2.2 Ghz Intel core i7, 16 GB Mac OS X10.11.6

It started happening once the piece Im working on got larger and happens most often after adding smart shapes or articulations and then having playback. I am not using full screen mode. If I restart the computer after a crash it helps for a while.

I am having a similar problem with my MacBook Pro (mid 2012, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 OS X El Capitan). Both the articulation tool and the expression tool cause Finale to instantly crash. Restarting did not help at all.

I see lots of questions and hardly any solutions. This may be the end of my relationship with Finale.

Apple has been getting a reputation (based on its last two OS upgrades) as being increasingly unfriendly to audio/visual programs--particularly those not programmed by Apple. I hope this is not intentional, but it bears thinking about.

I need answers to my problem of crashing while entering articulation marks. How do we fix this?

What version of Finale are you using?

What is your computer operating system (which iteration of Mac or Windows)?

You could add this to your signature file using the pull-down behind your name at the top of the thread.

Have you updated to 25.5?

Have you submitted a crash log to MakeMusic? Do this through the Submit a request link at the top of the page. Do not post a crash log here.

For others who may stumble into this thread, these issues with 2014 and earlier have been acknowledged by MakeMusic in later Mac OS. The solution is to upgrade to the current build of Finale 25.

They should not be happening in 25.5, of course. Please let us know what the problem and solution turn out to be. It will help others.
