I had Finale 2003 on my home computer, transferred my files to my school laptop, and used them in an upgraded version for many years.

I am now retired from teaching and have a new laptop.  Apparently I can no longer use the 2003 version I registered on my home computer.  I still have my files but have no way of opening them.

Windows or Macintosh? Which OS? Which is the latest "upgraded version" of Finale you have used with these files?

If you personally owned the original copy of Finale, you'll qualify for the latest upgrade of Finale, v25 for $149. That might be the way to go.

I originally had 2003 for Windows, but used an upgrade at my school to continue my work.  That was on a Mac.

Now I have a Macbook Air, so I guess I'd have to go back to the version I originally owned, 2003, to apply the upgrade.

How would I go about installing the upgrade if I don't have 2003 on my present computer ( and can't use the disk in this laptop)?

2003 won't work on a contemporary Mac. If you owned a license for 2003, you should be able to get the upgrade to the latest v25. Can you look up your customer profile from way long ago? You might have to contact Make Music directly. With the new upgrade you can open files made on any previous version.

If you can get into your user profile, you'll see your serial number. This doesn't change. If you can't, ask MM for help. If you have to call, having your serial number will help them find your account. You can also purchase the upgrade at that time, online or through your favorite reseller.

Once you upgrade, you will log in and enter that serial number plus your purchased upgrade code. This will update your account and allow you to download the latest version and authorize it plus the Garrittan Instruments for Finale.

Windows or Mac doesn't matter. You can authorize two machines (as long as you only use one at a time) so you can have an installation on each platform if you like.

Authorizing my upgrade didn't work in the Chrome browser but did in FireFox. I didn't try Safari but I've heard no reports to the contrary.
