Hi All

I have an older macbook pro running El Capitan. I don't want to update the OS because I'll lose some older apps that won't update and, frankly, I'm not sure the processor will handle Sonoma.

I have Finale 2014.5 on the Macbook Pro and it works fine. I have v27 on my home computer which runs Sonoma.

My problem is that when I transfer a Finale file from the home computer to the laptop, v2014.5 can't recognize the fonts indicated and shows a bunch of question marks in boxes. Is there a font package I can download and install so files are able to be shared between the 2 computers?

Thank you

Macbook Pro OS10.11.6  Finale v2014.5

If your copy of Finale 27 is using the now standard SMuFL fonts, it is not surprise your Finale 2014.5 cannot read them.

You can try changing the fonts on your Finale 27 machine back to the pre-SMuFL versions, which I understand is possible.

There are two ways to address this.

1) Adrian's solution to change from SMuFL should just work but, if not satisfactorily, you can also export from 27 as a Finale 2012 file.

Ernie pointed you to a Windows only page that will not work for you. Go to this page instead.

https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/217585418-Music-Fonts-Display-Incorrectly-Notation-symbols-are-missing-or-incorrect

Scroll all the way down, download and run this installer, then reboot:

I no longer have a Mac running El Capitán but it should work if your macOS is running 64bit mode (default unless you changed it). You'll have to select the same fonts in PM 2014 that you are using in in 27 — which may or may not be possible. Here's the Mac manual page for changing fonts in PM 2014.

Thanx MikeH for correcting me. I am on Windows so I normally gravitate to Windows sites. Perhaps In my old age I will learn to read more carefully. But there may be no hope!
