Grab the SmartShape Tool and then right click (or control + click if you're on a Mac) the hairpin. You will see that "Make Horizontal"l is checked in a box that pops up, just uncheck it and you will be able to angle it however you like. Hope that helps!

If this is something you will do a lot, you can uncheck MAKE HORIZONTAL (wlll not work on existing hairpins, but for all new ones added)

Is there a way to make the 8va dotted line be at an angle? I've tried the above, but it doesn't work. (see atttached pic)

This works for me:

Instead of using the sub-tool {8va/8vb Tool}, use the sub-tool {Custom Line Tool}.

Create a new custom line as as dashed line, with the 8va symbol as Left Start Text, and ending with a Hook.

A such custom line can be angled at any angle.

Also, you have full control over the line: you can customize the line thickness, the dash length, the hook length, &c.
