I now have a 2012cr.13 for Mac the original composition was on a version around 2002. My finale 2012 recognizes it and has it in the file list but can't open it and asks me to choose another file. Any ideas?

Is the .mus extension in the file name visible?

The file name is listed with .mus in all caps. The icon is visible but it won't open the file. I'm afraid I've lost this song for good.

Extensions should never be in caps. Change the extension to .mus lower case and see if it works.

Look at the file in GetInfo. Do you have Read Write privileges as Administrator? If you moved the file from another computer without using Migration Assistant or zipping first, you may not. This is easily fixed. Use the + sign to add your Admin account. Change privileges for all users to Read and Write.

If this fixes it as I suspect, never move files without zipping (aka Compress or Archive depending on the OS) first—even to DropBox. Emailing a file does this automatically as does Migration Assistant and Time Machine.

When you unzip a file on your Mac, the System adds your Admin privileges automatically. Copying a file does not.
