It depends. If the publisher has Finale 2012 or later, very easy. You can email the file.

if you send the file any other way (Dropbox or FTP, for example), zip the file first before uploading. Unzipping on the other end will make certain that the publisher has the necessary privileges to work the file.

Zipping is not necessary when emailing a file as attachments are compressed automatically.

How do I send a finale file by email? I can only save it in the program itself and not as a pdf. I have the free download. What do I need to upgrade to and for how much please? Thanks,

Can you not send the file as PDF because you do not have the PDF software or because the recipient requested a Finale file?

What version of Finale do you have?

What computer operating system are you using?

There are plenty of pdf converters for Windows, many of them are free. You will normally select one in the Print menu.

I’m assuming Windows as printing to pdf is part of the Mac OS.

Hi Adrian,

I have the free base finale program. Windows 10 is my OS. When I click into 'Save' there is only an option to save as a finale file. Do I need to upgrade the base finale program?

Thanks,

Nada

The free Finale 2012 is the program I am using to notate songs.

Please re-read Adrian's and my earlier responses.

You can email a Finale file or a pdf file depending on what the publisher wants.

All versions of Finale generate Finale files that a publisher with Finale can open. If the publisher requests a pdf file, there are ways to do this through the Export and Print menus.

The "free" version of Finale sounds like what we would call Notepad, a very limited form of the program, so it may not include PDF (which would be under Export rather than Print, if available). With a PDF Printer program you could Print out a PDF file from the File menu--or you could send a raw Finale/Notepad file, which would allow the recipient to edit it, if the recipient has Finale.

And Notepad also lack the Graphics Tool, so you can’t go that way, either. Look into one of the free PDF “printers” as J Adrian suggests
