Greetings,
I recently completed 5 pieces (about 30 pages total) for a new music book using my current Finale V26. I am currently on MacOS Catalina (10.15.7).

I started my project in late 2019 and have not done any updates because I was fearful that they may cause problems or create errors in my existing charts.

Due to the fact that MacOS is way beyond Catalina I would like to get some opinions on if I can safely upgrade both Finale and MacOS without fear of having font problems or any other issues.

I do want to update but I am awaiting final confirmation from a publisher that they are going to go ahead with publishing my book. All my charts were done in Finale V26, exported as PDF's, and inserted into the book which is done in Adobe InDesign.

I am leery of updating my Mac OS, Finale, Acrobat, or Adobe InDesign until I get the final agreement and send them the final version of the book in PDF format.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Regards, Gerald

"Dance with the one what brought ya."

In other words, if you're that close to winding up the project, I would let the upgrade wait. Why tempt fate?

Mike,

Thanks for your response and I agree in principle.  The reason for considering is that I am having difficulty loading web pages with my outdated Safari browser, some odd errors with USB devices, and currently manageable conflicts with a couple of the apps I use that need updates. Also, had to break my security rule of using only a single browser because some secure websites - like banks - will not let me proceed in the older browser. In my particular case the publishing company is being challenged by the fact that the copyright owners of Astor Piazzolla's music are difficult to figure out and contact thus making my wait time for final publishing to be indeterminate at this moment.

My reason to ask to the community at large was to see if anyone reports direct conflicts between these particular upgrades that might affect me.  If anyone reports pertinent problems then that will bolster my thinking to stay where I am.  I have seen your responses on this forum for a long time and trust your advice.

BTW, my 1976 high school barbershop quartet won the Omaha, Nebraska high school SPEBSQSA competition.  That was fun stuff!

Regards, Gerald

If you qualify for the Finale 27 trial version, could you load that and see how your Finale info would compare when viewed in Finale 27?

I get the feeling that the poster's concern is more about font conflicts should he need to do any updating to the original Finale files. (I could certainly be wrong, though!) I'm pretty sure that F27 won't work in his older Mac OS, so, he has to update before he can update...

I sang in high school, but not at that level. Many years later, I sang with a quartet of high school buddies as The Alumnotes. We sang the Star-Spangled Banner a few times at Oriole Park, and I've sung it with various BBS and mixed groups for a number of professional, semi-pro, and college games.

Why tempt fate?

Absolutely. Wait until completed completely.

Thanks for the feedback all.  I plan to stay where I'm at for as LONG as I can.  I started this project in 2020 and to do something that might mess up my charts at this time is not a good idea!

Finale 27 does run over macOS Catalina, I have it on a 2012 MacBook Pro that I use as a test machine. If 27 doesn't do what you want and how, there are instructions for removing it completely before reinstalling 26.

That said, finish your project in 26 before checking out 27.
