I just updated to 25 from a very old version.   I tried to figure it out from the documentation, but apparently my Garritan instruments did not get loaded.   When I look in the 'Sound Map Priority' box, Garritan is listed first and 'SmartMusic SoftSynth' is listed second.  That's as it should be per the doc.  But, when I go to 'VST Banks & Effects', the only option I'm given is 'SmartMusic Softsynth',  Garritan does not show up as an option.  When I go to 'Reassign Playback Sounds', the dialog box says 'This will alter the document, do you wish to proceed?'.  I select YES, and the message 'The requested virtual instrument plugin could not be found'.

Finally, when I open up the Score Manager dialog box under Window, under device, the only device that shows is 'SmartMusic SoftSynth'.  In the documentation, it says that Garritan is automatically loaded.

I'll grant that I'm not that familiar with Finale's technical configurations, so hopefully someone from Tech Support can show the solution to this situation.  Thanks

In MIDI/Audio menu, have you chosen to "Play Finale through VST" or is it set to "Play Finale through MIDI" (which it will be if you started with the Default document)?

J Adrian,

Yes I did set MIDI/Audio to "Play Finale through VST''.     However, just now I reopened the file (which was originally created in a previous version, but saved in the new Finale format), and 'Play Finale through MIDI' was selected.

So, I re-selected ' ... thru VST' and the following message popped up - 'The requested virtual instrument plugin could not be found'.

Assuming that you are not Finale tech support, how do I submit my issue to them?

Use the "Submit a request" link above to send a mssg directly to Support. It sounds as if your installation was incomplete.

I had the same problem when updating to Finale 25.

1.    First try reinstalling Garritan.  I tried clicking on the Aria icon that should have appeared on your desk top, but when I did and then tried to play the keyboard that shows up at the bottom of the window every instrument sounded like a low distorted mess.  I went through several instruments by going to the empty slot at the top of the window and scrolling through the instruments using the left and right arrow that appears on the screen.

Here are some instructions on trouble shooting the Garritan problem.

https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/217674648--The-requested-virtual-instrument-plugin-could-not-be-found-error-with-Garritan-Instruments-for-Finale-Windows-

The link to reinstall the Aria player is here.

2.        Supposedly this can fix the problem of the missing  Garritan program, but it didn't work for me.  So I had to manually point Finale to the Garritan directory (instructions in the same location as the first link above).

However, when I went to the VST2 folder like the instruction state, I did not find the Garritan folder.   I found Garritan further down the list past the VST2 folder.   Once I added the Garritan folder to the VST plug-in directories Finale could find the sounds.

3.  I created a new document for piano,  clicked  "Window" at the top of the screen, then "Score Manager".  From here I made sure that in the Device column the piano sound was coming from  "Garritan instruments for Finale" and not "Smart Music Soft Synth".     To change the device, hit the little downward arrow in the device column.

Hi,

I have the same issue. I have installed Finale v25 ( trial version). I have also Finale 2010 installed and it shows Garrian Aria as instrument to be chosen for Finale Channels. However, I don't see that in Finale v25.

I did rescan AU plug-ins, etc. However, Garrison does not show there.

I have also follow this:

https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/225378307-Changes-to-the-Garritan-Instruments-for-Finale-samples-installation-beginning-with-Finale-Version-25-for-Mac

However, there is no Customize option showing up in step 10!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You won't. 25 needs to see the version of GIFF that comes with the purchased version — it is not available to you in the Demo.

If you have purchased something like, say GPO, that you will be able to use, I think — I never ran the demo before I purchase upgrades to apps I use.

Thank for the reply. So if I buy the full version, I don't need to upgrade my GPO to make it work with F25?

The current version is GPO 5. It works great with Finale 25. I have no problem accessing it through the version of Aria included with the purchased version.

Longtime Garritan and Finale users know that it's sometimes tricky finding the exact version of Aria that works with everything.

Chekad,

GPO 4 will also work fine with Finale v25 if that is the version you have, (At least it does with the Windows version.)

Probably with the Mac version, too although I can't verify.

I have another notation app that finds GPO 4 but won't work with 5. I'm guessing its embedded version of Aria is too old but I haven't taken the time to troubleshoot it.

Yes. I was having the same problem.

1. Midi/Audio  (from Menu Bar)  - Select "Play Finale through VST".

2. If this doesn't work, restart your computer and do step 1 again.
