Windows 10 Enterprice 64 bit. I would really like to use Spotify and Finale 2014 at the same time but when I load Finale Spotify doesn´t play any sound.

This wasn´t a problem when I used Finale 2012 so what has happend now?

Hi Monica,

Thanks for posting!

Some audio device APIs require exclusive control to be given to an application for it to be utilized with that application. WASAPI is one of the audio device APIs that can do this. Why don't you try opening Finale, choosing MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Audio Setup, and then choosing DirectSound from the Audio Driver drop-down menu and see if that helps?

There are a few reasons why Spotify might not be working when you load Finale:

Resource Conflicts:

  • Shared Resources: Both Finale and Spotify are demanding applications that require a lot of system resources like CPU, RAM, and graphics processing power. When both applications run simultaneously, they might compete for these resources, causing one or both to malfunction.
  • Audio Drivers: Both applications utilize audio drivers. Conflicting drivers or outdated drivers can cause issues with either software.

Software Conflicts:

  • Plugin Interference: Certain Finale plugins might interfere with Spotify's functionality or vice versa.
  • Antivirus/Firewall Software: Antivirus or firewall software can sometimes block applications perceived as threats, even if they're legitimate.

Other Possibilities:

  • Spotify App Issues: The Spotify app itself might be experiencing temporary glitches or bugs.
  • Finale Project Settings: Specific settings within your Finale project could be causing audio conflicts.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  1. Close unnecessary applications: Shut down any programs you're not actively using to free up resources for Finale and Spotify.
  2. Update Software: Ensure both Finale and Spotify are running the latest versions. Updates often include bug fixes and compatibility improvements.
  3. Check Audio Drivers: Update your audio drivers to the latest version provided by your sound card manufacturer.
  4. Disable Plugins: Temporarily disable any Finale plugins you don't need to see if they're the culprit.
  5. Temporarily Disable Antivirus/Firewall: Try temporarily disabling your antivirus or firewall software to see if it's blocking Spotify. Remember to re-enable it afterward for security reasons.
  6. Reinstall Spotify: If the issue persists, consider reinstalling the Spotify application.
  7. Check Finale Project Settings: Review your Finale project's audio settings to ensure they don't conflict with Spotify.
  8. Contact Support: If the above solutions don't work, contact Finale and Spotify support for further assistance. They can provide more specific guidance based on your software versions and system configuration.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the issue and get your Spotify working alongside Finale again.

This post was from seven years ago, and a solution was found at that time.  I wonder where the response was copy/pasted from, and why the latest responder bothered.

Although it does remind us that Finale tech support was, at one time, a presence on the forum…
