I started working on a file on Monday with no problems whatsoever - 6 parts, about 20 measures orchestrated.

Today, playing it back, one of the parts is playing a half step off. I have verified that there are no transpositions selected.

I closed Finale, reopened, same issue. And actually, it's a different part that's now off. And it's doing it not only during playback but also Speedy Entry note playing.

I restarted my Mac, problem still persists. Tried SmartMusic Soft Synth as well as Garrison.

Tried other files, no problem. It's only this one file.

Running Finale 27.4.1.146

Welcome to the forum!

Since the problem persists, there is reason to suspect that the culprit is in the document’s MIDI Data.

Possibly caused by Human Playback.

- Are you using Human Playback?

- Are there any glissandi in the score?

Anyway, you could try this (on a backup copy!):

Selection Tool.

Select All.

Edit menu > Clear Selected Items…

First, click None, then select only Continuous Data.

Click OK.

Good theory but nope. Something was deeply wrong in the staff itself.

- I tried copying all contents to a brand new file, and the problem went away.

- I tried copying the contents of that staff only to a new staff in the original file, and the problem persisted into the new staff.

- I emptied the contents of the original bad staff entirely, and even just playing notes on my keyboard (not entering yet) they were sounding a half step off. Yet no transposition was set for the staff.

- In the end, I just created a new staff, recreated the 9 bars from the one bad staff, and replaced the bad staff with this one and it's fine.

I've never seen anything like this and I've used Finale for 25 years.
