I cannot create 16th-note triplets. I did change from 8th notes to 16th notes in the Tuplet Definition box. I even changed it to Set Default that way. But it keeps everything as if it were 8th notes. I have tried the Speedy Entry method, CRTL 3 which only makes the score smaller, and CRTL 1 which didn't change a thing. Then I used Simple entry, CRTL 9 using a 16th note to start. It defaults back to an 8th note triplet timing. Creating 8th note triplets is easy, 16th note triplets, not so much.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

There are several ways to create tuplets.

I wonder whether you have tried them all?

- Simple Entry Tool, the Tuplet (sub-)Tool

- Speedy Entry Tool, the Tuplet (sub-)Tool

- Tuplet Tool on the Main Tool Palette

- note entry with MIDI keyboard, computer keyboard, or click

Are you setting your Simple Entry default tuplet to three 16ths in the space of two 16ths?

Is this happening in a new default file?

I have discovered that putting triplets at the end of a measure typically does not work.  So my work-around is to put the number of notes Finale will take into that space as place holders, then do a tuplet at the beginning of the next (or any currently blank) measure and copy/paste it over the problem notes. Most common example is triplet eighths as last beat: enter 2 eights, then in next measure enter eighth, and using tuplet tool finish tuplet, highlight tuplet and copy it to where needed over the place holders.

Typically it does work.

There are several ways to enter a tuplet.

The {tuplet at end of a measure} problem happens

- only in Simple Entry,

- only when you enter certain tuplets in a specific way,

- only when {Check for Extra Notes} is selected.

Peter Thomson, Mike Rosen,

I have been using the examples that both of you have shown me for years and they have always worked fine. Now using the same procedures does not work. Even when I save the default to 16th notes, it ALWAYS comes out as if I were making an 8th note triplet.

John,
Is this in all documents? Have you tied it in a new default doc?

Would you be open to a Zoom?

Mike,

This was in a new default document.

Sure, I would be open to a zoom call. Is there a time next week that would work for you? I will be busy the rest of today.

I do appreciate all the time you are putting into this for me.
