Finale v. 26.  PC Windows 1:   I was writing in a large orchestral score format and during one of my save-reopen sessions, two violin 1 lines appeared. Exactly the same one above the other. I tried to delete one of them and both were deleted.  I don't know why there are two.  In the window instrument list, there is only one violin 1 line indicated.  Any answers?

Welcome to the forum!

Indeed I have experienced your issue in a Finale document many years ago.

Unfortunately I do no recall what caused the “duplicate” staff, nor the fix.

Something to try:

1) Make a backup copy of the document (just in case!).

2) Selection Tool.

Select the Violin 1 staff, and copy the contents to Finale’s Clipboard.

3) Delete the Violin 1 staff.

4) Add a new Violin 1 staff.

5) Select the new Violin 1 staff, and paste the contents from the Clipboard.

If all attempts fail, consider exporting as a MusicXML file.

Then, import the MusicXML into a fresh, new Finale document.

This route, via MusicXML, often cures ‘pesky’ file problems.
