I am using Mac and Finale 2023.

Program crashes when you delete the first note of a measure - destroying hours of work if you are not careful.

I don't recall any Finale 2023. Could you check that, please? What is your Mac operating system? Do you have Auto Save set up? Time Machine? Any other backup plan?

Even if Finale crashes, you shouldn't lose more than a few minutes of work.

Is this with all files, or just one particular one?

Assuming you have Finale 27, MikeR is correct, it has a pretty decent recovery system. However you need to make sure you have autosave and auto backup turn on.

I am using WIndows and until recently I never or I should say very rarely had Finale crash. Lately, or I should say the last several months, Finale 27.4 has crashed a couple of times. I see no apparent reason either. It isn't any single thing I am doing when it crashes. It can be quite frustrating and difficult to find out why.

Not being a Mac guy I can't help you find the conflict except not all Finale versions are compatible with all Mac OS. Make sure your version is OK with the Mac OS you have. Why Apple breaks the OS on each upgrade is beyond reason.
