Hello all!

I'm using Finale 12 right now and but I'm hoping you can help because I don't know what's happening and why it is happening to some files and not others.  I will likely upgrade once this project is complete but I'm on a deadline and fear that learning a new system right now will cause the project to be delayed.
I am writing a song collection for young singers. In the first few songs, for some reason, the tempo marking shows up fine when I convert to PDF. After that, when I convert to PDF it says it's an engraver font that's not available and in the PDF it comes out as little boxes.  Can't have that.  I don't know what the difference is from song to song but, when I try to put the tempo marking in again, either I get the same message or Finale just shuts down and boots up again when I try to convert. If the font isn't available, why is it working for some songs and not others?

Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I suppose I might have to resort to making a graphic and putting it in but I really do have to get this done.

What method are you using to create the PDF? A number of users have had problems with Finale’s built in feature. Instead, use the graphics tool and export the PDF file from there.

See if that helps.

Hmmm.... to this point I've been doing the Export option under the file menu. So, are you suggesting using the Graphics - Export Pages route? Interesting! I ended up just making graphics of the tempo markings and inserting them but I'm going to try this and see if it works for future reference. Thank you!

Okay, I still have to do this switch of font names thing, removing spaces in the name, but once I did that, it seems to work! Thanks again!

Tiffany,

I think a better way to do PDF's is with a PDF utility like Cute PDF fo doPDF. They are printers and act just like any printer except they make a PDF. Most of them are free.

Yeah that's a tough spot but I don't think you will have any steep learning curve.

I'm guessing Windows, right? If so, Ernie's your guy on this issue.

If you're doing this on an ancient Mac, please let us know which macOS. My suggestions will be a little different (assuming I can remember back that far).

I agree you do not want to upgrade in the middle of a project. The good news is that Finale upgrades cost the same no matter how old your registered version is.
