"For a limited time, users of any version of Finale or PrintMusic can purchase Dorico Pro – the highest tier of the product – for just $149."

I have some problems with that statement:

1. Why can't MakeMusic be straightforward with their "valued" customers and list a specific date instead of saying "for a limited time"?

2. MakeMusic is trying to justify itself by saying "just $149." Some of us don't have "just $149" lying around after paying hard-earned money for Finale. When they disrespect their customers the way they did, the deal should be much sweeter than that.

Uhhh... I hate to insert a reality check on this but...

The offer is Yamaha's to make or withdraw, not MakeMusic's. As long as Yamaha thinks they will gain Finale customers, pretty certain it will be good, at least through next August. This crossgrade offer is 50% the normal Dorico competitive upgrade price of $299.99.

The offer states,

Unlike other software, there's no need for subscription. Proof of eligibility required. …

a clear swipe at Sibelius. Permanent licenses are available but Avid really really really wants everyone on Subscription so they make those very hard to find — and there is no crossgrade pricing once you do find them. Like Yamaha, any incentives come from Avid's marketing department. Even if MakeMusic were to list an offer, that would change nothing.

This afternoon's announcement:

Clarifications on the initial announcement

  1.  Finale authorization will remain available indefinitely: Please note that future OS changes can still impact your ability to use Finale on new devices.
  2. Finale v27 to be included with Dorico Pro Crossgrades: We are currently working on a solution for all customers who have purchased or intend to purchase a Dorico Pro crossgrade to be able to download Finale v27. This will ensure that you can export your Finale files using MusicXML 4.0, the most robust version of MusicXML available. Thank you for your patience, we will provide more information soon.
