Windows Finale 27.4.1.110 on Windows 10 machine with an HP color laser jet pro MFP M277dw    This is the version of Finale we received when opting for the Dorico transfer.

For years, this printer has printed scores with no objections.  The current score is for male choir:   tenor, baritone, bass, and piano.  Clicking on FILE / PRINT brings up the usual print dialog with the 4 parts unchecked.  However, instead of an option for "score," it offers "a piacere," which I don't recall ever having seen before.  Trying to print this "a piacere" option causes a printer error.  However, I can "print" a pdf from "a piacere" using "Cute" without incident.  This creates a perfect pdf score, which in turn, works fine with the printer.   By the way, I have found that one must set the resolution to 1200 dpi in order for the 5 staff lines to be of uniform darkness.  "Cute" (which is free) has multiple dpi settings.

We need some more details. Is this on a single file? Did you create the file from scratch, or receive it from someone else?

Have you restarted the computer? (A basic question, but still...)

In the ScoreManager -> File info, is the score name correct ("Score" for instance).

Hello Mike Rosen,

Is this on a single file? ...... Yes, this is the only time this has ever happened.  I recently did the upgrade included in the Dorico offering.  This is my first score on the new version of Finale.

Did you create the file from scratch?   ......  Yes, I created the file, although I may have utilized one of the built-in templates.

Yes, I reboot Windows whenever things get sketchy.

I also notice that if you leave Finale unattended for a time - let's say one hour or more - it locks up and requires <ctrl> <alt> <delete> to end process.

Hello Michel Herr,   This is the first time I've ever noticed "*score name insert".   As shown in the attached screenshot, it says "a piacere."  I did not write that.  What should it be?  "score"?   Or the filename "OVERWHELMED.MUSX"? Or something else?

Just as a wild stab, try exporting the file as XML, and importing it back in. This can often clear up corruption.

I try to change score name insert from "a piacere" to something else, but it reverts back.

"In the ScoreManager -> File info, is the score name correct ("Score" for instance) ?"

As I said, in the File info window (your screenshot), the Score Name Insert should be Score (or whatever you want to see in the score).

If you insert a text via the Text menu -> Inserts -> Part/score Name, the text Score will appear in the Score but will be replaced by the Instrument name in the parts (according to the staff name entered in ScoreManager -> Instrument list).

The solution is found on a Finale Forum topic titled "Score Manager" from 2-24-24:

Here's a fix, PR167!

Go to the Expression tool, double-click on the staff somewhere, hunt down a piecere in the Show All "category," and delete it. That seems to fix it.
