EXPORTING TO MUSICXML FILES DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A RELIABLE WAY TO PORT ALL FINALE FILES TO DORICO PRO 5

I've used the export tool as recommended, but sometimes either the exporter or Dorico seems to mistake different staves on a system as being on separate system, and sometimes it omits staves from systems in parts of the document. It also sometimes msinterprets things like the relationship between notation and tabulature, especially when two are edited independently for the same instrument in Finale before the export. Also, many of the graphics tools in Dorico are difficult to manipulate even after following the tutorials. There appears to be more things you can do with Dorico but the way to do them is often counterintuitive--it's not very WYSIWYG. For instance, editing tabulature settings or tabulature notes/chords in the score is tricky, and even though many help topics mention tab, you can't find those tops by typing "tabulature" in the search box! I understand that many documents will have to be significantly edited after the fact, but it appears that the exporting process makes mistakes or that Dorico interprets the MusicXML differently than it's exported.

If you actually want help with Dorico, then I'd strongly recommend using the Steinberg Dorico forum. You'll find many former Finale users there, who may be familiar with the problems you're having.

You can include screenshots or sample files of the problems, which will help people to see what is going on.

It's true that XML is not flawless -- and Finale is often more concerned with the look of the page than the meaning of the object, which is Dorico's forte. It's very easy to create tab in Dorico from the staff representation of the notes, so you may find that you don't need all the data that's coming in from the file.

What Dr. Ben says.

In addition, if not running Finale 27, consider doing so as it adds MusicXML 4 making musicxml exports to Dorico better.

The Finale to Dorico crossgrade is still available if you didn't take advantage of it yet. Besides the upgrade to Dorico 6.1, it includes a license for Finale 27.
