what is the best way for exporting midi files if one chooses playback with Audio Units...?
It is supposed to play on more than the standard 16 midi channels and so where are those sounds/patches going?

MIDI export has nothing to do with playback. It is entirely separate. Go to File/Export/MIDI File...

 

Depending on how you intend to use your exported files, you may wish to also explore export as MusicXML.

 

There are many pages in the Help files on this.

so Finale doesn't save patch to midi channels?

only in general midi?

If you want to import the resulting MIDI file into the Aria Player, you can save an Ensemble in Aria and match it up with your MIDI file for playback. If you want a file to playback as heard in Finale, you really want an audio export rather than a MIDI export.
