I suspect your two lines of lyrics are in different voices (or verses), which is why you get the extension line of the first syllable shown.

The Lyrics menu has the ability to let you edit extensions, which is what I recommend you do.

If this is verse 2, and the chorus is attached to verse one, then you need to stop the extension. There are two ways to do it:

1. While you are in the lyric tool, and that verse, go to the end of the extension, and there will be a handle. Click in that handle and DELETE.

2. (My preferred method) Insert a hidden grace rest in the score at the end of the verse. I use an eighth rest, turn it into a grace rest, and hide it. This way, if you have additional verses, they will all end at that spot.

Adrian could be right, as well. If you can show us what’s above the lyric line, we will know more!
