I have a problem entering note names from the keyboard.  I have a suspicion that Finale has overridden my system keyboard setting somehow.  Does anyone know anything about this?

Further information:

MacOS High Sierra 10.13.3.

Finale 25.5.  (I installed it today.)

My keyboard is regular qwerty, not a specialty Dvorak keyboad.  I configured the system preference to Dvorak layout.  The key caps say one thing, but my typing comes out different.

I see the problem during note entry, i.e., A, B, C, D, E, F and G.)  I notice that hotkeys in the File menu work (the problem does not exist there).

We need a bit more info. Otherwise we're guessing more than we should.

Louis,

Mac or Windows? Finale version? OS?

Do you have the Dvorak keybord as a keyboard input on a QWERTY keyboard, or a real Dvorak keyboard? Do other shortcut keys work properly?

I’m not sure... You might have to switch back to QWERTY layout for Finale. You could probably remap many of the Simple Entry shortcuts, but I don’t know about the system keys.

have you asked Tech Support?

You want to send this to MM Support using the Submit a request link at the top of the page.

There's a possibility you may need to use a Dvorak keyboard. The only reasonably priced one I know is the Matias.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for telling me about the Simple Entry options.  Upon opening the dialogue box for Edit Keyboard Shortcuts, I saw that the Dvorak layout had been mapped to qwerty -- weird.  It was tedious, but I reconfigured the mapping so that it was normal, i.e., I mapped B to B, C to C, D to D, etc.  Now the keyboard works normally.

By the way, before posting my question, I searched meticulously in the menus for where a keyboard option could be, but there was none to be found.  It just recently that I saw the fleeting Simple menu -- now you see it, now you don't.

I am grateful for your response.

This can be marked Solved?

Perhaps the workaround can be added to the Help files. I would submit that as a Feature Request.

Hi Mike H.,

Thank you for the excellent keyboard recommendation, but I have a resolution thanks to Mike R. telling me about the existence of the Edit Keyboard Shortcuts -- what a pain that was.

It doesn't matter to me which solution is successful. Whatever works... works!
